CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT:  Vietnam
MODEL:  F-100

Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot at a classified location in Southeast Asia on 15 December 1970. Shortly before midnight on that date, Major Langston was launched from Phan Rang Air Base to aid friendly forces surrounded by a numerically superior hostile force. Despite adverse weather, intense anti-aircraft fire, and minimal light from flare illumination, Major Langston silenced the ground fire, killed two-hundred members of the hostile force, and was instrumental in saving the beleaguered friendly force from probable total destruction. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Langston reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
