Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John R. Lampkins for extraordinary achievement while serving as Co-Pilot on many high altitude heavy bombardment missions against the enemy over Germany and German-occupied Continental Europe during a period ending 24 December 1944. Displaying outstanding airmanship and skillfully assisting his Pilot, Lieutenant Lampkins’ actions have been a contributing factor in delivering damaging blows to vital enemy installations. The courage, coolness, and skill displayed by Lieutenant Lampkins on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
