Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant Edward J. Koebernik for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Flight Engineer, 40 th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron, Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, from 13 October 1967 to 29 March 1969. During this period, Sergeant Koebernik flew extremely hazardous missions through adverse weather conditions and through the constant threat of hostile ground fire and attack. In spite of this he superbly accomplished these highly intricate and hazardous missions in support of free world forces combating aggression. Through his personal bravery and energetic application of his knowledge and skill he significantly furthered the goal of the United States in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Koebernik reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Edward J. Koebernik for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Flight Engineer of an HH-53 Rescue Helicopter near Hue, Republic of Vietnam, on 5 May 1970. On that date, Sergeant Koebernik's exemplary knowledge and outstanding technical skill, displayed under extremely hazardous conditions, culminated in the rescue of two United States Air Force crewmembers. In each rescue, Sergeant Koebernik guided his pilot to the survivor and provided precise hover directions while skillfully lowering the jungle penetrator and hoisting the survivor aboard the rescue helicopter. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Koebernik reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
