Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Warrant Officer King distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as pilot aboard an armed helicopter supporting an insertion of friendly infantry near Tra Cu. He began identifying enemy positions for the aircraft commander. When one of the lift ships was forced to land with severe damage, the aircraft commander initiated a false orbit to mislead the enemy and Warrant Officer King was continually pointing out sources of enemy fire. Later in the day as the aircraft commander initiated rocket runs on the bunker, Warrant Officer King began directing the fire of the door gunners onto enemy positions so the aircraft commander could successfully complete the runs while taking minimum aircraft damage. As night and hazardous weather moved into the area, Warrant Officer King continued to pinpoint enemy fire and initiate evasive maneuvers to avoid collision with the other aircraft operating in the general area. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
