Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Karl G. King for heroism while participating in aerial flight as Commander, HH-43F Rescue Helicopter near Bien Hoa, Republic of Vietnam on 25 July 1966. On that date, Captain King, acting as Rescue Crew Commander of an unarmed helicopter, made a recovery of a downed Pilot who was being fired upon by hostile forces. By his rapid reaction, daring decisions and disregard for his personal safety, Captain King recovered the downed Pilot in full view of attacking forces, thereby saving the downed Pilot from almost certain capture or death. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain King reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
