Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant William T. Kane for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights during the year 1956. During this period, Lieutenant Kane performed, under exceptional conditions, flights which were of the greatest importance to the United States Air Force. The effectiveness and courage exhibited by him in the accomplishment of these missions, under extremely hazardous flight conditions, ably demonstrated Lieutenant Kane’s outstanding proficiency and steadfast devotion to duty. In the performance of these missions of vital significance to the United States, he has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
