Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Kacerguis distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Aircraft Commander on a Command and Control helicopter during an Air Cavalry reconnaissance mission near the Cambodian border. As the lead element of an aero- scout team landed in an enemy infested area to extract a wounded aviator whose light observation helicopter (LOH) had been downed by enemy ground fire, he maneuvered his aircraft to cover the rescue team as they performed their mission. Flying through a hail of enemy bullets, he moved his craft toward the advancing enemy force, enabling his door gunner to keep the insurgent force pinned down until the rescue operation was completed. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army. Peter Kacerguis is a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society.
