Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Sterling A. Jensen for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a B-17 Pilot assigned to the 525th Bombardment Squadron, 379th Bombardment Group, First Air Division, Eighth Air Force on 26 February 1945. On this date, Lieutenant Jensen and his crew experienced number one engine failure upon return to home station after a dangerous bombing mission at the Berlin Marshalling Yards. As they proceeded further, the crew lost two more engines and crash landing appeared imminent. As the crew approached the English Channel and emergency evacuation procedures were being prepared, Lieutenant Jensen demonstrated expert skill and outstanding airmanship by successfully and expertly landing the B-17 aircraft on only one engine without further damage to the aircraft or injury to his aircrew. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Jensen reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Corps.
