AWARDED DFC:
1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: F-4E
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert H. Jasperson for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Weapon Systems Officer near the city of Quang Tri, South Vietnam on 26 May 1972. On that date, Captain Jasperson participated in a flight of two F-4E Phantom aircraft which attacked, despite multiple defenses in the area, two tanks that threatened to overrun an allied ground position. Although numerous obstacles hindered the flight, including clear weather, which aided the gunners, a restricted run-in heading, a strong crosswind and a camouflaged target, Captain Jasperson's accurate bombing resulted in the destruction of the tanks and the renewed security of the allied forces whose lives had been imperiled. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Jasperson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
