Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain James L. Igleheart for heroism while participating in aerial flight. Captain Igleheart distinguished himself by heroic actions on 6 August 1970, while serving as a Pilot with Company A, 25th Aviation Battalion, 25th Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam. On that date, a resupply aircraft was in the process of landing at Fire Support Base Hong Ha when it came under intense small arms and automatic weapons fire. Despite being wounded, Captain Igleheart guided the aircraft to a safe landing to successfully complete the resupply operation. Although his wounds prevented him from flying the aircraft any further, Captain Igleheart assisted the Aircraft Commander in lifting off and once more flying through a hail of hostile fire. The assistance provided by Captain Igleheart was instrumental in bringing the crippled aircraft safely to Tay Ninh where medical aid was sought for the wounded personnel. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. The bravery and devotion to duty exhibited by Captain Igleheart are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
