Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Max R. Ibach, Jr. for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Flight Leader near Qui Nhon, Republic of Vietnam on 6 May 1966. On that date, Major Ibach led a flight of F4C aircraft against a hostile force which was inflicting heavy casualties on a friendly force. With complete disregard for his personal safety, and in the face of heavy ground fire, Major Ibach led his flight in repeated attacks against the opposing force and succeeded in destroying it. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Ibach reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
