Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Craig A. Hutzler for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller near Dong Xoai, Republic of Vietnam, on 8 December 1968. On that date, Captain Hutzler played a decisive role in preventing the annihilation of a friendly reconnaissance team by repeatedly exposing himself to heavy automatic weapons fire while flying at low altitudes. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hutzler reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
