The President of the United States of America has awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Michael B. Hultquist for extraordinary valor and heroism during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. His heroic actions while serving as a Pilot in Command of an OH-58D under heavy enemy fire, shows his complete dedication, tireless efforts, and exemplary performance of duty in a combat zone against anti-Iraqi Forces. His bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflect distinct credit upon himself, Task Force Palehorse, Multi-National Corps Iraq, and the United States Army.

The President of the United States of America has awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Michael B. Hultquist, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight on 9 January 2011, as an MH-6M Basic Mission Qualified Pilot and Air Mission Commander for a Joint Task Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On this date, Captain Hultquist led a time-sensitive direct action mission and knowingly placed his aircraft under heavy enemy fire to facilitate an air assault on a high value objective. Additionally, he coordinated all rotary wing air assets used to successfully air assault the ground force into the immediate objective area and to provide precision assault and first in support to the ground force during sustained actions on the objective. Throughout the mission, Captain Hultquist displayed great personal courage, heroism and complete disregard for his own personal safety. Captain Hultquist's distinctive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Joint Task Force and the United States Army.
