The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Lewis M. Houser, Jr. for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Pilot in Southeast Asia on 25 December 1967. On that date, Lieutenant Houser led a mission against a vital transshipment point. In the face of intense, accurate ground fire, Lieutenant Houser successfully interdicted this critical supply route and destroyed one of the hostile gun positions. Lieutenant Houser’s aggressive leadership, courage and professional performance contributed directly to the success of the Allied Forces in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Houser reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Houser, Jr. for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Pilot in Southeast Asia on 30 December 1967. On that date, Lieutenant Houser led a flight of F-4C fighter bombers against a strategic and heavily defended transshipment point. Disregarding intense anti-aircraft fire, the flight made repeated attacks which silenced multiple gun positions and successfully interdicted this critical supply route. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Houser reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
