Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain David L. Hofstadter for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an Electronic Warfare Officer, B-52D aircraft, 307th Strategic Wing, U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand on 1 December 1972. On that date, Captain Hofstadter flew in a three ship B-52D formation launched against a highly defended target in North Vietnam. Despite the threat of surface-to-air missiles and large caliber anti-aircraft artillery. Captain Hofstadter was able to provide the electronic counter-measures to defend the aircraft and assist in affecting an on-target release of ordnance. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hofstadter reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
