Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Plane Captain of a Plane in Photographic Squadron Five during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Tyukyu Islands Areas from April 3 to 22, 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Hill contributed materially to the success of his plane in obtaining photographs, which provided strategical and tactical information about the installations on many enemy-held islands in this area and aided in the successful invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. His skill and devotion to duty in the face of frequent antiaircraft fire and hostile fighter opposition were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
