Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Kenneth F. Herrington, Jr. United States Navy for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as a Pilot and Flight Leader in Carrier Air Group ONE HUNDRED ONE, based on board the U.S.S. BOXER, during operations against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 20 June 1951. Leading a flight of fighter planes on a night heckler mission between Songjin and Chongjin, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Herrington carried out repeated attacks on his objectives in the face of heavy hostile antiaircraft fire and greatly aided his flight in destroying two locomotives, eleven loaded freight cars and nine trucks and in severely damaging a bridge, quantities of supplies and numerous other vehicles. By his marked courage, skilled airmanship and unswerving devotion to duty, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Herrington was greatly instrumental in the success of the mission and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
