William S. Henderson Jr.
AWARDED DFC:
1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: F-4D
Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 31 December 1967. On that date, Major Henderson flew a night combat mission against important supply routes through a hazardous mountain district under the control of an Airborne Forward Air Controller. With great determination and superior airmanship, Major Henderson made repeated attacks without the benefit of flares or moonlight against a number of supply-laden trucks hidden under a dense jungle canopy. His precise ordnance deliveries resulted in a chain of secondary explosions and fires. As a result of this mission, the supply efforts of the opposing forces were seriously disrupted. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Henderson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
