Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Michael E. Harvin for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a C-7A aircraft at Katum Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, on 30 June 1970. Threatened by known hostile gun positions on the perimeter of the camp, Lieutenant Harvin coordinated all phases of the tactical approach and departure with his crew. Aided by a Forward Air Controller and fighter escorts, Lieutenant Harvin accomplished a tactical approach into the airstrip which minimized exposure to ground fire and enabled the delivery of combat essential medical supplies and food to the camp. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Harvin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
