Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Roger A. Gomas for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot near Dak Seang, in the Republic of Vietnam on 15 April 1970. On that date, Major Gomas was diverted into the area of Dak Seang to support a rescue effort trying to recover the crew of a helicopter which had been downed by hostile ground fire. In spite of intense ground fire, poor visibility, and mountainous terrain, Major Gomas placed all ordnance precisely as required, thereby suppressing the ground fire. Through his professional efforts, the crew of the downed helicopter was rescued. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Gomas reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
