Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Richard C. Hansen for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller in Binh Dinh Province, Republic of Vietnam on 28 January 1966. On that date, while flying an unarmed O1-E aircraft, Captain Hansen directed tactical air with extreme accuracy for four hours in close support of a beleaguered American battalion. As a result, a heavily fortified hostile concentration was overwhelmed with only light friendly casualties. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hansen reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
