Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Loyd M. Halliburton, Warrant Officer W-1, United States Army Company C, 227th Assault Helicopter Battalion, Republic of Vietnam, for action dated 21 March 1967 for extraordinary heroism and gallantry while participating in aerial flight. Warrant Officer Halliburton distinguished himself by heroism in action on 21 March 1967, while serving as pilot of a UH-1D helicopter during a combat support mission near Bong Son, Republic of Vietnam. When an infantry unit heavily engaged with an enemy force requested emergency resupply of ammunition, Warrant Office Halliburton volunteered to perform the extremely hazardous mission. For 10 hours he repeatedly guided his heavily loaded aircraft through artillery fire, aerial rocket artillery fire, tactical airstrikes and enemy small arms fire to resupply vitally needed ammunition to the besieged units. On the return trips Warrant Officer Halliburton evacuated the wounded from the battle area. With complete disregard for his own safety, he continued to carry the critically needed supplies to the heavily engaged units. Warrant Officer Halliburton's display of personal bravery and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
