CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT:  Vietnam

Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Jack Hahn for distinguishing himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130E Navigator at Katum Airfield, Republic of Vietnam, on 1 May 1970. On that date, Major Hahn flew eight combat emergency resupply sorties into Katum Airfield to deliver arms and ammunition to Army Special Forces in support of the Cambodian Offensive. Precision navigation was required to avoid both Allied and hostile artillery fire, as well as locating the area which was covered by dense smoke and haze. Despite continuous hostile small arms fire in the immediate area, all urgent supplies were delivered as scheduled. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Hah reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
