Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for distinguishing himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as B-52G Aircraft Commander near Baghdad on 20 January 1991. On that day, while attacking a communications center during Operation DESERT STORM. Captain Hagelthorn continued the bomb run despite heavy anti-aircraft artillery fire and the launch of a guided surface-to-air missile which exploded just below the aircraft. The successful attack in the face of heavy enemy fire resulted in the destruction of a critical communications facility. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hagelthorn reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force. Allan G.
