Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Robert S. Guynn, Warrant Officer, W1, United States Army, Troop B, 7 th Armored Squadron, 1 st Air Cavalry, Republic of Vietnam, for action dated 4 October 1969 for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty: Chief Warrant Officer Guynn distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as pilot of a light observation helicopter on a visual reconnaissance mission near Vinh Long. He spotted a bunker with a sampan in a canal line. Detecting fresh trails running towards the bunker, he requested and received permission to destroy the bunker. While making a second orbit over the area, the aircraft took two direct bursts of fire wounding him and his observer critically. However, he was able to safely autorotate his aircraft to the ground. They departed the downed ship and made their way to an awaiting aircraft. He was able to point out the enemy's location before being medevaced from the area. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
