AWARDED DFC:

CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: AH-1G
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Marc E. Grimm for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Grimm distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 7 May 1969, while serving as Aircraft Commander of a AH-1G helicopter with Company D, 229th Aviation Battalion (assault/helicopter) (Airmobile). While on a combat assault the lift formation came under intense anti-aircraft fire. Captain Grimm with total disregard for his personal safety began making low level passes over the enemy positions to draw their fire away from the troop helicopter. During the entire insertion mission, Captain Grimm continued to place accurate suppressive fire on several hostile emplacements and successfully silenced them. Through Captain Grimm's heroic actions, the combat assault was performed at a minimum of casualties and was greatly successful. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
