Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Darrell R. Gresham for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123 Instructor Pilot (Aircraft Commander) at Katum Airfield, Republic of Vietnam on 20 September 1968. On that date, Captain Gresham was diverted from his scheduled fragged mission to accomplish a Combat Essential resupply mission. Disregarding personal safety while under hostile fire, Captain Gresham successful delivered his cargo of ammunition to the ground forces at Katum without sustaining injury to the crew or damage to the aircraft. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Gresham reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
