Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Jeffrey W. Grechanik for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight while serving as a F-111E weapon systems officer with the 7440th Combat Wing (Provisional), Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, on 27 January 1991. On that date, Major Grechanik flew a night attack mission against an Iraqi air defense radar and communications site. During this critical mission, Major Grechanik's courage, dedication, and professionalism under continuous hostile fire directly contributed to the severe damage inflicted on this crucial command and control facility in northern Iraq. Shortly after crossing the Iraqi border, Major Grechanik observed a heavy curtain of antiaircraft artillery fire blocking his route of flight. Despite this intense antiaircraft barrage, later acknowledged as the most intense fire seen over northern Iraq during the entire war, Major Grechanik successfully pressed home the attack by directing maneuvers to avoid the most intense fire and deliver his ordnance on target. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Grechanik reflect great creditupon himself and the United States Air Force.
