Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major John A. Granskog for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an A-7D Aircraft Commander over North Vietnam on 26 December 1972. On that date, Major Granskog led his flight in the attack of a critical military target that was well within the range of numerous anti-aircraft batteries and surface-to-air missiles. Despite a constant barrage of anti-aircraft fire, missile launches and the threat of attack by hostile aircraft, Major Granskog continued the attack and successfully destroyed the target, contributing significantly to the mission objective. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Granskog reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
