Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Roger G. Bacchieri for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130E Pilot over Southeast Asia on 26 February 1972. On that date, Captain Bacchieri's aircraft experienced a serious propeller malfunction which required an engine shutdown under extremely adverse weather conditions. His quick and precise reaction and subsequent emergency landing under minimum weather landing conditions insured the safe recovery of the valuable aircraft and the sixteen crew members on board. The pro­fessional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Bacchieri reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
