Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Stephen G. Gladish II for heroism while participating in aerial flight on 30 May 2007, as an Attack Helicopter Co-Pilot/Gunner in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He displayed situational awareness and outstanding dedication to duty during the recovery of a fallen aircraft. The lives of numerous U.S. Paratroopers were saved due to his valor in the face of relentless enemy fire. His regard for the safety and security of those Soldiers, despite putting himself in harm's way, contributed to the overwhelming success of the command's mission. First Lieutenant Gladish's actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, Task Force Corsair, the 82nd Airborne Division, and the United States Army.
