CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT:  Vietnam

Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major David N. Gish for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a CH-3C helicopter Co-Pilot at Sa Huynh, Republic of Vietnam on 12 February 1966. On that date, Major Gish airlifted a Civil Actions Team out of a Vietnamese village that was occupied by a strong hostile force. These members were delivered to a Vietnamese village where over two thousand refugees from the battle zone were awaiting their arrival to dispense food and shelter. This gallant action relieved the misery and suffering of thousands of Vietnamese families and furthered the policies and objectives of the United States in South Vietnam. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Gish reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
