Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Roy D. Erickson for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Pilot of a plane in Bombing Fighting Squadron Ten, attached to the U.S.S. Intrepid, in action against enemy forces in the Japanese Homeland on March 19, 1945. Participating in a strike against enemy airfields at Kure, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, (then Ensign) Erickson pressed home attacks in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire to destroy one airborne hostile aircraft and assist in the destruction of another. In addition, he aided in damaging strafing attacks on enemy military installations. His airmanship and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
