AWARDED DFC:
1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: AC-130
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant Joseph D. Galbraith for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-130 Illuminator Operator over Southeast Asia on 10 March 1970. On that date while flying a night armed reconnaissance mission over hostile supply routes leading to South Vietnamese cities, Sergeant Galbraith with complete disregard for his personal safety, aided in the destruction and damaging of 20 hostile vehicles. Despite extremely heavy and accurate antiaircraft fire, poor weather conditions, and exceptionally rugged terrain, he dealt a most devastating blow to the hostile forces achieving one of the most outstanding interdiction efforts in the history of gunships in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Galbraith reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
