AWARDED DFC:
1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: F-4E
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Wilbur R. Dudley for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Aircraft Commander over Southeast Asia on 11 November 1969. On that date, he was faced with marginal weather conditions and received an estimated 290 rounds of intense anti-aircraft fire while attacking a heavily defended and lucrative target. Major Dudley nevertheless attacked the target four successive times before departing the area, leaving one anti-aircraft gun destroyed, two guns damaged, and a large sustained secondary fire. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Dudley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
