The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Lee P. Dodd, Jr., for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-111 Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 19 December 1972. On that date, Captain Dodd displayed outstanding airmanship and exceptional courage in striking a vital target just north of Hanoi, North Vietnam. Despite degraded aircraft equipment and extremely accurate firepower directed at his aircraft, Captain Dodd successfully completed his mission. The outstanding results of his strike contributed directly and significantly to the United States’ efforts in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Dodd reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Dodd, Jr., for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 26 December 1972. On that date, Captain Dodd displayed outstanding airmanship and exceptional courage in striking the highly defended Surface to Missile battery in the city of Hanoi, North Vietnam. Despite degraded aircraft defensive equipment, enemy air engagement and extremely accurate firepower directed at his aircraft, Captain Dodd successfully attacked and destroyed this vital target. The outstanding results of this successful strike contributed directly and significantly to the United States' efforts in Southeast Asia and were instrumental in bringing this conflict to a conclusion. The professional skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Dodd reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
