Charles H. Dimler
AWARDED DFC:
1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: B-52
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Charles H. Dimler for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 combat aircrew member assigned to the 4133d Bombardment Wing (Provisional), Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, on 23 December 1969. On that date, Captain Dimler flew as Navigator on a highly critical mission over Vietnam. On this mission, interphone failure four minutes prior to release, made communication between Radar Navigator and crew impossible. Captain Dimler assumed the responsibility and duties of both the Radar Navigator and Aircraft Commander. He guided the aircraft and crew to that precise point in the target and effected an accurate ordnance release. He contributed immeasurably to the success of the Strategic Air Command’s Contingency Operation in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Dimler reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
