Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights totaling more than two hundred hours over enemy-held territory in Northern Burma where enemy fire was probable and expected. Sergeant De Maris and aircrew members flew troops, ammunition and vital equipment to the forces in this sector. The courage, devotion to duty, and degree of efficiency exhibited by Sergeant De Maris in the face of enemy opposition, deceiving weather conditions and hazardous terrain reflect great credit upon himself and upon the Army Air Forces of the United States.
