Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Guy A. Davis Jr., for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 24 June 1972. On that date, Captain Davis flew in a formation of six CH-53C helicopters on a mission to move a large contingent of allied soldiers into a remote location to begin an offensive operation. When the mission commander was forced to return to base, Captain Davis assumed leadership of the formation and expertly managed the remaining aircraft to insure that the operation was neither endangered or degraded by the loss. Moving a maximum number of soldiers in a minimum of time, Captain Davis made possible the success of the allied operation. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Davis reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
