Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Dale L. Davis, CW2, United States Army, 155th Aslt Hel Co, Republic of Vietnam, for action dated 1 April 1968 for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty: Chief Warrant Officer Davis distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander on a UH-1H helicopter on an ammunition resupply mission to the besieged Special Forces camp at Quang Nhi. As they approached the landing zone, the ship came under heavy enemy fire. As the ship was brought to a hover the crew rapidly began dropping the ammunition. Before the unloading was completed, however, the landing zone had become alive with enemy mortar rounds, and he was forced to withdraw to a safer altitude. Another attempt was made but was also aborted. A final approach was made, and again the hovering aircraft came under enemy fire. Quickly the crew dropped the remaining ammunition to the waiting infantry. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
