CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Korea
MODEL: RB-46
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Joseph F. Daly for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. On the night of 10 July 1952, Lieutenant Daly displayed exceptional professional skill as a Navigator, 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron , Night Photo, in the United Nations air offensive in Korea. His crew, having been assigned the Kwaksan railroad bridge near Sinanju, Korea, Lieutenant Daly directed his unarmed RB-26 aircraft to the target area by means of loran navigation. A complete undercast in the area made it necessary for Lieutenant Daly to continue to direct the aircraft by loran across the target. The high degree of success attained in this endeavor enabled Lieutenant Daly to secure information concerning the Kwaksan bridge and rail facilities for the United Nations effort. By his high personal courage and devotion to duty, Lieutenant Daly has brought great credit upon himself and the United States Air Forces.
