Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Richard T. Cross for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Cross distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 22 October 1970 while serving as Pilot in the Republic of Vietnam. When word came down that some friendly units were in need of resupply, Captain Cross and other members of the Night Hawk crew were given the assignment. They hovered above the units and dropped the emergency supply of pyrotechnics to them. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
