The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant Gerald F. Coleman for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Pilot of a Bomber Plane in Marin Scout Bomber Squadron Three Hundred Forty One during action against enemy Japanese forces in the Philippine Islands Area from 4 to 13 March 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Second Lieutenant Coleman contributed materially to the success of his squadron and to the infliction of extensive damage on the enemy. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of hostile anti-aircraft fire and aerial opposition were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant Gerald F. Coleman for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in connection with military operations against the enemy in the Philippine Islands area from 29 April 1945 to 16 May 1945. He completed forty missions which were flown in an active combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire or enemy airborne opposition was expected, and on one or more of these missions such enemy opposition was encountered.
