Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel James C. Coe for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130E Navigator for the 21st Tactical Airlift Squadron at Kontum, Republic of Vietnam, on 22 April 1972. On that date, Colonel Coe performed duties essential to the accomplishment of the resupply of critically-needed ammunition to the besieged airfield at Kontum. Despite adverse weather conditions, hostile ground fire and the hazards inherent in operating into a forward airfield at night, Colonel Coe successfully accomplished this vital mission. His courage and perseverance contributed significantly to the airlift mission in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Coe reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
