Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer James C. Christiansen for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Warrant Officer Christiansen distinguished himself on 3 July 1967 while serving as Aircraft Commander of an assault helicopter in support of the 25th Infantry Division. During the day he flew into numerous insecure landing zones and pick-up zones. On one landing he received heavy enemy fire and took several hits throughout his aircraft. Although his aircraft had intensive strike damage, he elected to continue to fly. Shortly after, while approaching another insecure pick-up zone, the flight again began receiving enemy fire and, while waiting for the ground troops to load, he was wounded in the head. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
