Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Don O. Christian for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a special C-123 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 17 June 1970. On that date he volunteered to fly an extremely hazardous night combat mission while participating in a sensitive top secret operation directed by a staff agency on the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. The mission involved the aerial delivery of a classified payload to three geographically separated target areas. His outstanding flying skill was a critical factor in the successful accomplishment of this sensitive and critically important mission. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Christian reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
