The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Gary C. Christensen for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 combat aircrew member assigned to the 4133d Bombardment Wing (Provisional), Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, on 6 November 1969. On that date, Captain Christensen flew as Copilot on a highly critical mission over Vietnam. During the ordnance delivery, he observed flak in close proximity of the aircraft. Captain Christensen immediately notified the Aircraft Commander and other crew members of the threat. His quick reaction during this critical phase was a major factor in the successful completion of this mission. He contributed immeasurable to the success of the Strategic Air Command's Contingency Operation in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Christensen reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Christensen for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Aircraft Commander from 2 July 1972 to 31 July 1972. During this period, Captain Christensen's exemplary knowledge and outstanding airmanship resulted in the successful completion of numerous missions against hostile foreign force in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Christensen reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
