Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Specialist Four David A. Christensen for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Four Christensen distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 3 February 1970, while serving as crew chief during a low reconnaissance mission near Song Be in the Republic of Vietnam. As his craft was flying over an area of suspected enemy activity, Specialist Four Christensen alertly spotted and engaged ten enemy regulars, killing them before they could place accurate fire on his craft. Returning to the area again and again, he accurately marked enemy positions for airstrikes. After the airstrikes had been completed, he voluntarily retrieved a pack from the midst of a bunker complex of over 100 bunkers. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect a great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
