Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Robert M. Chisholm for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a pilot of jet aircraft attack Squadron Seventy-Five embarked in USS Saratoga (CV-60). On 19 December 1972, Lieutenant Chisholm conducted a single aircraft, high speed, low-level night attack against a heavily defended military installation deep in enemy territory in Southeast Asia. He skillfully piloted his aircraft through intense anti-aircraft artillery and the surface-to-air threats to successfully attack one of the enemy's largest naval facilities. The crew observed one extremely large secondary explosion that illuminated the surrounding area. Careful planning, flawless execution and attention to the smallest detail enabled this mission to be safely and successfully completed. Lieutenant Chisholm's courageous leadership and exceptional aerial skill reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
