Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Richard B. Case for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4 Weapon Systems Officer over Dong Hoi, North Vietnam on 16 October 1972. On that date, Captain Case flew an extended mission as a Fast Forward Air Controller escort. During the entire time of the mission there was the immediate threat of surface-to-air missiles and enemy ground fire. Due to the availability of lucrative targets, Captain Case remained in the area to protect the Forward Air Controller and later personally was responsible for the destruction of three enemy trucks and six surface-to-air missile canisters. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Case reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
